The Athens Clarke county police department received a 911 call from a couple who said their son had been on drugs for several days and he was acting erratic and he took their car without permission. They were fed up with his antics and they called 911 to have law enforcement intervene. A short time later law-enforcement arrives on scene, and after a brief standoff with Thomas Swinford, he drove off in his parents car, but not before running over police stop sticks. with flattened tires, A pursuit began that only lasted a short distance, before coming to an end in a church parking lot. After a standoff with police that last nearly 30 minutes, Thomas pointed an airsoft pistol at law-enforcement, forcing them to open fire. This is the officer involved shooting of Thomas Swinford.
